Use information effectively. This workshop equips educators with information fluency strategies for effectively locating, identifying, and evaluating online resources in support of student learning in a technology-enhanced environment. Topics include
- Locating and evaluating online resources
- Search terms and advanced search techniques
- Subject directories, subscription databases, the "invisible Web," and primary sources
- How school libraries impact student test scores
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this workshop, you will be equipped with strategies for effectively locating, identifying, and evaluating online resources in support of student learning in a technology-enhanced environment. You will be able to
- discuss ways the Internet has changed students' access to information and the effect these changes have on doing research for learning
- develop search strategies that locate high quality materials for student learning
- develop skills for evaluating Web resources for student learning
- apply research and information fluency concepts and skills by teaching a lesson, searching a database of experts and reflecting on findings, or communicating to other members of the school community
- collaborate with other educators in an inquiry-based online learning community, exploring the use of digital tools to foster the development of 21st century skills
